he doesn’t believe, the wisdom of slaves
the wisdom of clocks takes him away
old convictions, and lost elections
—at my desk, i trace what’s gone
from 1950 an old poem
i gathered dust from 1960
i saved whats left, to make a song
how many times.. can i say
what i believe and and what i know
my mother swept it out of the way
in her dreams lost children played
my father believed in the rule of law
written on paper and written in smoke
he sang for policemen, he liked there jokes
i never believed it and kept it secret

The singer-songwriter / painter moved to New York for a few months in 1967 where he met Bernard Stollman of ESP-Disk, who offered him a contract. Between 1968 and 1986, Ed lived, mostly, in New Haven; doing occasional shows with his band, and later doing solo shows there.
