Playing Cards

the gray house and the wall
the garden, the green door
the piano, the piano, the piano,
the blue sky and the car
parked by the sliding board
there playing, there playing in the yard
la la la
playing cards in the kitchen
pass the shuger, poor the coffee
the radio, the radio, the radio,
what is this life for?
make dinner, take a shower
working men and working women,
make money at the store
spend money at the bar
the music, the music, the piano
the gray house and the wall
the garden, the green door
the piano, the piano, the piano,
la la la

Buildings and Bridges
04:43
|
|||
how many years have i watched the sun rise
out of the city into the night sky
how many times has a mother heard the cry
of a new life
water pours down out of the sky
streams become rivers that carry away
buildings and bridges, and cars float by
how many tomorrows are were lost today
time is an image that never fades
time is not a clock. time is a wave
another boat to the other side
time is today and time is a page
a lonely boy walks on the shore
and his wishes are part of all
he looks into the starry night
at building's and bridges in the sky
how many years have i watched the sun rise
out of the city into the night sky
how many times has a mother heard the cry
...... of a new life

I Look for Lovers
03:29
|
|||
i'll have a little absinthe
like Picasso in a cafe
and i remember
i can't forget the way
we walked by the rivers
and talked of life
cause i look for lovers
and Picasso paints
yes, i look for lovers
but i can't save face
if i forget them
if they don't forgive me
but we walked in moonlight
hand and hand
i painted your picture
i painted your picture
i'll have a little whiskey
to keep out the cold
and all these stupid memories
when i get old
but if they forgive me
i promise to have and hold
cause i look for lovers

Afloat
04:28
|
|||
boat on the water
where will we go
when will we get there
we don't know
trying to get to Europe
in a boat
boat on the water
trying to stay afloat
take me off this
old boat please.
i sold my home and
bought a ticket
how many weeks
to cross the sea
boat in the water
rescue me
boat on the water
where will we go
when will we get there
we don't know
trying to get to Europe
in a boat
boat on the water
trying to stay afloat

If That Guy
04:09
|
|||
i remember some cute guy
was standing on the corner
where some guy had gone inside.
he said "i'll talk to him when he comes outside
"i'll talk to him when he comes outside
if i have to wait i'll wait all night".
we left him there and went to a bar.
we had a drink and i wondered if that guy
got his hearts desire
got his hearts desire
got his hearts desire
got his hearts desire

the War In a Mirror
03:26
|
|||
on the day of the war
you left me for the front line
...the battle was
your new bride
parabolic lines
tracers in the night sky
children asleep
it's there nite-lite
boys in the camp getting
ready for the fight
.....
in the hall of mirrors
get out of town
we better get away
from the little planes
from boys in little planes
on the day of the war
you left me for the front line
,,,the battle was
your new bride

Burning Buildings
04:56
|
|||
i have an empty phone, that don't ring.
my broken window, looks out on the street
and there are burning buildings on the sea
waters pouring out of the sky
tears are falling from my eyes
a broken hearted clown has 3 rings
children riding trains,there riding trains
and heaven is a hopeful destiny
but the phone don't work the phone don't work,
and they're burning buildings on the sea
Flash Gordon was a man who saved the Universe
everybody knew that he could do it
he had empty book he could not read read
heaven is a hopeful destiny
and children riding trains, riding trains

Alligator
04:09
|
|||
Winter is old
like scraps of news
words in a storm
"blowing around"
dogs in the heat
piss on the street
dreamy afternoon
and yesterday's paper
at the train station
trees on the avenue
children at the zoo
lost the alligator
lost the alligator
lost the alligator
....
lost the alligator
soldiers keep order
people turn corners
walk to the border
wait at the border
Winter is old
like scraps of news
in a storm
old news is old news

the Mirror
04:15
|
|||
sometimes the time just flows away.
i turn my back and walk away.
and i regret it.
i can't forget it.
..but time
is a great escape
sometimes true love was not enough.
there was always something else i had to do,
i broke your heart when i ran away
never look back.
i used to say.
but one night i looked at my face.
i looked at that man in the mirror.
on the day i ran away
cause i couldn't face your feelings.
sometimes the time just flows away.
i turn my back and walk away.
and i regret it.
i can't forget it.
..but time
is a great escape

Stop and Search
04:49
|
|||
the police are scared...
....
were dodging bullets in the street
all we can think of stop and search
but the police are scared
a beautiful black youth
was shot in the face
his beautiful mother cried in the street
no one saw those boys drive away
and the police are scared
-----it was a sunny afternoon
a boy was playing with a toy gun
a cop pulled up
and pulled a gun
and shot out the sun
cause the police are scared
mistakes were made
a beautiful mother cried in the street
and everyone saw it
and everyone saw it
and everyone saw it
well, praise the Lord
...
were dodging bullets in the street
itchy fingers everywhere
he garbed my gun
and the cop was scared
-----it was a sunny afternoon
a boy was playing with a toy gun
a cop pulled up
and pulled a gun
and shot out the sun
the police are scared...
....
were dodging bullets in the everywhere
all we can think of stop and search
cause the police are scared

Virginia

Virginia was the look out
waiting for George to tell her
but George didn't know
but George didn't know
he just came up here from Virginia
the clouds were gathering like a storm
they were waiting for the storm to come
the weather man said the the winds were strong
but Virginia
grabbed the kids and put em in the car
George didn't see what Virginia saw
he didn't know what the world was for
or what words were for
by Saturday they got across
all the bridges that they saw
but George didn't know
but George didn't know
he just came up here from Virginia
time changes us all
clocks stop and stop us all
from returning or beginning
and clouds were gathering like a storm
