Water Wheel
03:27
|
|||
amber eyes
smiling at me tonight
walking across the room
just to.. say hi.
orange tie
and yellow shoes
a pink rose
on his gray suit
can i have
this dance tonight
they'll play a waltz
till the end of time....
Walter walks
on a street of dreams
he talks politics
over drinks
water wheel
spinning in the stream
we'll go swimming
in the wind
and can i have
this dance tonight
they'll play a waltz
till the end of time....

Tight Rope Walker
04:38
|
|||
i met a sailor from Venezuela
told him my grand dad was a whaler
who sailed to Brooklyn when he was 15
he and my grandma had 7 children
i knew an actor who liked to buy wood
he bought a forest for his apartment
he liked to wonder in that black forest
told me that french girls liked German soldiers
...i sang of rivers and boats on the bay
for some kind children who helped me find my way
but in the 90s when i couldn't play
for welfare workers i waited all day
i hitched to Frisco with my friend David
David was 16 when a policeman
took him to Kansas. and left me standing
out on the highway. out on the highway
i walked to Kansas looking for David
the cops said he'd left for SanFrancisco
i hitched to Frisco where i found David
i found him smiling and kissing a young girl
...i sang of rivers and boats on the bay
for some kind children who helped me find my way
but in the 90s when i couldn't play
for welfare workers i waited all day
i met a lawyer a tight rope walker
an old magician who knew a trick or two
he juggled records he was a talker
"now you see it, now you don't"
i met a boy in 1968
he took me home with him and made me happy
and years later he was a daddy
i was his best man when he got married

Watching White Planes
04:54
|
|||
blue boy.. is walking on the beach
he looks out to sea....he looks out to sea
blue boat..sailing on the tide
may brings a lover by.. may bring his lover by
don't cry ..under city skies
because it breaks my heart .. it breaks my heart, thats why.
and we.. are watching white planes fly
but we can't say good by.. we can't say good by..
a little rain falling from the sky
falling on my face ..falling on my face
but don't cry ..don't cry
because it breaks my heart .. it breaks my heart, thats why.

What Robert Frost Said
04:19
|
|||
pictures on a TV screen
furious people everywhere
crowds in a city street
throwing rocks..at the police
when there isn't any dignity
when there isn't any dignity
than what's left
than what's left
than what's left is authority
people looking for a better life
in another country
a better life for there children
are detained and imprisoned
but when there isn't any dignity
but when there isn't any dignity
than what's left
than what's left
than what's left is authority
"Before i built a wall I'd ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out
An to whom I was like to give offence..
to whom I was like to give offence.."
that's what Robert Frost said
that's what Robert Frost said
and sometimes when we build a fence
all that's left is authority
when there isn't any dignity
when there isn't any dignity
and all that's left is authority
all that's left is authority
and people in the street
throwing rocks..at the police
crowds in a city street
throwing rocks..at the police

Richmond (cover)
04:45
|
|||
when i left Richmond, it was Christmas
the streets down town, were full of shoppers
and all around, i saw lovers
walking up and down, looking in shop windows
that was last year, now Summer
in another city, and there playing
o my love, my darling,
i've hungered for your
touch and time
goes by
so slowly
time can do so much
so much
so much
.....
i'm still missing,
the long walks on the beach
and those delicious
nights of love
and in the morning, we made pancakes
o my love, my darling,
i've hungered for your
touch and time
goes by
so slowly
time can do so much
so much
so much

Boy In Love
03:41
|
|||
love in the mind of a 14 year old
thinks all the time of a boy he knows
a lovely face, body and soul
a body and soul
love is blind is all he knows
on the buss a beautiful boy
he see's him everywhere he goes
everywhere he goes
....all the clocks in the universe
father sky and mother earth
take a ride on the winds of time
the winds of time
water boy comes at night
to a place of dreams and light
making stars making stars
making stars
a school boy with a dream thats old
looks in the mirror at his body and soul
what does he see when he looks at me
will he look at me?
but love in the mind of a 14 year old
thinks all the time of a boy he knows
a lovely face, body and soul
a body and soul
....all the clocks in the universe
father sky and mother earth
take a ride on the winds of time
the winds of time

Winter Wind
03:50
|
|||
winter wind in the cold
snow is falling on the road
houses appear like a ghost in robes
mountains and trees in the white world
trees make drawings in the sky
arms and legs dressed in white
cold wind is blowing in your eyes
snow flakes are falling in the light
snow men standing by the road
we are dressed in white robes
tall trees are drawing in my mind
mountains and trees in the white world

The 20th Century
04:26
|
|||
it was Winter /when i played this
with broken fingers /i couldn't help it
i was an icon /in windy weather
now that i'm old /i feel much better
in 68 /i was on fire
i had a boy friend /who played with numbers
i played piano /with broken fingers
we cried on acid /and felt much better
la la la
in the 20th century
we broke the law
......but i was born at sea
he ...was standing there like a king
i thought we were free
but that was not to be
he gave me a hammer
i gave him a heart
we broke it together
--i met a boy /who came by taxi
he gave me an apple /i gave him a compass
i drove him home /they wouldn't let him
he just turned 40 /and he feels better
i know someone who writes me letters
i wrote him songs so he'd feel better
and in the past i had a lover
we broke the law so we'd feel better
la la la
i gave him a rose
he gave me scissors
i cut up his picture
i n the 20th century
we broke the law
......but i was born at sea
ah.....

What Is Love?
04:09
|
|||
how can i speak of names
i don't even know what love is
your long hair was the same
was the same
what wonders can we find
those brown eyes, and that twisted smile
---- standing in the drive way
the drive way
i know the past is deep
like ashes on the sea
but who knows what could be
what could be
i found you at a time
new love was like a child
who looked for love like mine
who looked for love
how can i speak of love
the wind blows on the ocean
like thoughts of long ago
long ago
how can i speak of names
i don't even know what love is
your long hair was the same
was the same
